In accordance with the current city of Salem guidelines, we ask that everyone wear a mask in the gallery.

The theme of this show was inspired by Paulo Coelho’s 1993 book, The Alchemist. In this fable we follow along with the protagonist as he searches for his life’s work. He encounters many people along the way who have security. Some even have riches. Yet, they have settled and given up their passions. They speak of the dreams they once had. Our hero faces many temptations to stop his journey for an easier or safer occupation. He is tested and presses on.

Such is the life of the artist. Many creative people are tempted into a life away from their passions for other “stable” careers. As you enjoy the work of these artists, I hope you can feel their passion and celebrate their bravery in staying the path that leads them through a life of personal growth and creative fulfillment. It is my hope that this experience gives you a little push to pick up a long lost hobby. Consider this permission to be allowed to follow the call of your passions and create something from your heart.
