Fall in love with calligraphy in this beginners workshop at Creative Harbor in Salem. Your teacher is Liz Roessler of Lettering By Liz, a Boston based pro calligrapher with 30+ years experience.

During this small group workshop, using your beginners kit - included with your registration (pen & nibs / inks / practice workbook / assorted cardstock & more), we will learn the fundamentals of the meditative art of pointed pen calligraphy in an inspirational, educational, and fun way. Following class, students will bring home their new supplies and personalized takeaways created for them by Liz.
The easy-to-understand instruction is focused on everything you need to get started and enjoy the art of calligraphy: how to properly hold and use a dip pen with acrylic ink, setting up your workspace, healthy ergonomics, patient and personal instruction and focused, specific goals for your practice and project work following class. Liz will guide students through how to practice a complete decorative alphabet (choose YOUR favorite from several styles) and give clear recommendations on how to apply their skills to creating lettering art year-round. We will review all the best pro tips / tools and unique ways to use your new calligraphy skills, inspiring demos, and interactive Q&A throughout.
Following each class, students are encouraged to check in regularly with Liz and receive individual feedback and guidance via emailed images of practice and projects.
In addition to the 90 minute class, you may choose to stay / practice / receive more guidance, Q&A for 30 minutes after the lesson (optional, not required). You may arrive 30 min before class to relax, unwind, and enjoy light local refreshments with Liz & the other students (please arrive no later than 10 min before class start time).

ABOUT YOUR TEACHER:
Liz Roessler is a self-taught, professional calligrapher based in Boston with over 30 years client experience. She has been obsessed with letters ever since she could hold a crayon in her hand and immersed herself in learning calligraphy as a young adult. In her 20’s, she began doing a wide variety of calligraphy work for events, menus, chalkboard signs, invitation design, certificates and custom lettering art commissions for clients.
Over the past decade, she has enjoyed “sharing the lettering love” by teaching 100’s of in-person and virtual classes to individuals, dozens of cool companies for their employees, to social groups, at museums (including the MFA and ICA), in classrooms (including Boston and Brookline Public Schools), and at colleges (including BU and Northeastern).
She has appeared many times on-location for “live” calligraphy and hand-engraving glass bottles for clients including Saks Fifth Avenue, Sephora, Victoria’s Secret, J. Crew, Cartier, Lululemon, Crayola, Montblanc, Lafroaig, Shinola, Maker’s Mark, Nordstrom, Sugarfina, L’Oreal, and Blick Art Materials.
Liz has taught classes for dozens of companies including Microsoft, Pfizer, Zappos, HubSpot, DraftKings, EF Education, Wayfair, Toast Tab, Arnold Worldwide, Mullen Lowe, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Boston Children’s Hospital, and The Harvard Club.
Her custom calligraphy project clients have included Tiffany & Company, Coca Cola, West Elm, Chanel, Sotheby’s, Neiman Marcus, Harvard University, MIT and many event planners, non-profits, small businesses & brands throughout the USA.
